1. White Bread
1. White Bread - This is a bread that I make for our family on a regular basis. It is very simple, and takes 1-2 hours. I make it by hand, and my toddler helps out. Enjoy!
- 1 package quick rise yeast
- 1 cup warm water (not hot, as that will kill the yeast)
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- 2-1/2 cups bread flour or all purpose flour
- mixing bowl
- 5-inch x 9-inch loaf pan
- cooking spray
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix water, salt, sugar, oil and yeast. Add flour, and mix dough by hand until fairly stiff. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead several times until smooth. Shape dough into a loaf shape and pinch ends. Spray with oil and set in pan. Cover and leave in warm place to rise until it has doubled in size. (75-85 degrees for 30 minutes to an hour) This recipe only needs to rise once, but if you wish, you can certainly let it rise again. Simply punch it down and let it sit again. Pop in the over for 20-25 minutes. When you remove it the top should be a golden brown and spring lightly back.
