10.5.2011 - Craft Day Wednesday

Afternoon!  Today we had arts and craft day at home, and we had a great time!  We made découpage letters, and we loved it!  We decided to do Isabel's initials - IRP, and our only regret is that our little lady's initals are irp!  We just LOVE Isabel Rose though!  Read on to see how to create these letters!

What you need:
·         Three letters – the initials you’d like to decorate.  These can be wood, or chipboard, and can be found at your local craft store.
·         Decorative paper, enough to cover your letters.
·         A wide paint brush
·         Mod Podge
·         An exacto knife
·         Embellishments
Total cost:  About $10 (including mod podge and exacto knife, which can be used on later projects)
Step 1:  Trace the letters onto the paper – make sure you are tracing it backwards so the decorative side is the part you see when you adhere it to the block!

Step 2:  Cut out shapes using exacto knife.  Precision isn’t necessary at this point, but you don’t want to cut too much.
Step 3:  Put a thin layer of Mod Podge (or other form of adhesive) on the block, and paste the paper to it.  Then spread a moderate layer over the top of the paper.
Step 4:  Let dry for 15 minutes.
Step 5:  Use exacto knife to trim edges of letter.
Step 6:   I like to edge all things craft like with a brown ink – it generally makes an antique quality, but I just adore it!
Step 7:  Embellish as you see fit!
Thanks for crafting with us today!  If you do this craft, we'd love to see pics!

10.4.2011 - Financial Health Tuesday

Today, I share one of my most useful (as of late) tips.  We recently moved, and have had many many MANY trips out to eat.  In light of our health and cutting extra expense from eating out, my family and I have resolved to have a glass of water (usually with a lemon wedge - Iz thinks it's juice then!) before our meal.  If we still want a pop, we get it after our meal.  I'd say this cuts out 90% of out to eat pop consumption and saves $2-$3 bucks every time we go out!

    September 29th, 2011

Today was a productive day.  Isabel is spending some time with her new daycare gal, and adjusting, so mama was home alone today.  I got to some cleaning, applied for some jobs and clipped some coupons.  I also wrote to some companies :)

Now, I'd like to have sort of a scheduled content for this blog.  One idea for each day of the week.  Some things I came up with are:

    Recipes
    Match ups
    Money saving ideas
    Craft Day

    I need a few more ideas....any suggestions?

Once I get  settled on some ideas, we'll have a theme for each day and there will be the usual blurb on my family, as well as a focus on some sort of tip or fun idea for the day!

    Over and Out,

    Danielle

    September 28th, 2011

Morning!  We've been busy today so far.  We awoke early, and have done much!  The kitchen is clean, dishes done, clothes are in the dryer.  Cat boxes are tended to, and now we are writing compliments (and one complaint) to companies to share the love :)

I have an exciting bit of tidbit of information to share!  There is a fantastic family blog, is http://www.santoshawellnessgroup.com that I love, and I have been asked to write a blurb on it about the companies I write!  I'm pretty stoked about it, and will keep you posted so you can check it out too!

We had a busy day - we spent the morning cleaning, then spent the afternoon at the children's museum.  Iz had a ton of fun - she met some new playmates, and got to play dress up and ride motorcycles. :)

I have been struggling with daily migraines, so this evening was a wash for me, but tomorrow should be eventful.  Iz will spend her first full day with her new sitter, and I think she will enjoy it.  I will have time to myself, and will be working on organizing and picking up at home!

I have been working on the saving money aspect of this blog - Check out the new tabs, and let me know what you think!

    September 25th, 2011

    Good Evening!

We are pretty much moved at this point, and enjoying Lincoln so far.  My lovely father in law spent a good deal of time hanging all of my photos and things for the wall this weekend so our apartment is begining to look like home!

As for home, our house hasnt yet sold...not so surprising based on the current market.  We are hopeful though that it will soon sell, or we can rent it.

We are trying to find a routine here in NE, but havent found one yet.  I am applying and interviewing for positions and hope to find one soon.......so my frivolous spending may resume!

Its game night tonight, but I wanted to touch base - I'll  be back tonight or tomorrow, and will be working on really getting involved with tracking life here in blogland!

    Over and Out,

Hello all!  Today was my last day at work, and I am now unemployed.  Sad day.

    8.23.2011

    August 23rd, 2011

HOLY COW I am not good at keeping up!  I feel like life is a thousand miles an hr lately!  Since I last blogged, we have moved into our apt, and despite some rocky beginings there, it is now fixed up to our liking.  We spent the weekend with  Kev's parents, then came back to SD.  My family came out to hang out one last time, and then I shipped my husband off to NE.

Isabel is a little confused sometimes  - she knows daddy, meeps and pearl are in 'braska, but she doesnt really get that he cant just come over on a whim.  She gets upset, but we are getting through :).  Isabel and I surprised daddy by making a day trip to Lincoln, NE that we all reallly realllly needed, and now we are on week 2.

Kev is settled in our apt in Lincoln, and enjoying it.  He loves to hang out in the pool and get a workout in.  Iz and I are just suffering in the heat here in Volga, SD with Java - the remaining cat.  She is also having a hard time being away from the other cats.

Tonight, Iz and I are watching movies and eating enchiladas - we plan to paint our toes - the perfect girls night in!  We are contemplating driving to Sioux Falls tomorrow to get Isabel's ears pierced.  We shall see what tomorrow brings!

We had another showing on the house today, but still no bids....wish us luck!

I have officially put in my resignation at CAPITAL, and my last working day is 9.8.2011 - which is coming up very fast.  I do not have employment lined up in NE, but am planning on enrolling in school again....stay tuned for more on that!  For now, I must go - strawberry shortcake awaits!

    Over and out -
    Danielle and Iz.

    8.15.2011

    August 15th, 2011

    Hello folks :)

It's been some time since I was able to log in and 'blog.'  We have been very busy, and had a few little roadbumps in our transition to Nebraska.  Because of those, I've not done any C25K or other workouts since the last time I posted I did.  I am trying to keep the goal in sight, and to not fret about missing a few days.  Life is so crazy busy right now - I need to keep that in mind, and keep working towards the light at the end of the tunnel!

Let me give you a rundown of how our time has been spent lately!

On Wednesday, mama worked.  Isabel and papa spent a good deal of time at home, cleaning and packing.  They did a great job, and I came home to a clean house and tired family.  I was excited to be off of work, as I had a full seven days off all in a row after that.  On my way into the house, I noticed that I had a headlamp out on the car, but forgot to tell Kev about it.  :)

On Thursday, mama and papa went to pick up the Uhaul.  It was epic.  We decided last minute that it would be fun to check out the Casino in Watertown, SD.  You see, we had to travel an hour north to pick up our Uhaul because Brookings didnt have any.  So, we got a sitter and headed North.  We had a fun time playing at the casino, then went to pick up the truck.  We had good, fast service at the Uhaul rental place and everything went smoothly.  That is, until we got on the highway.  I was driving in front of Kev because the Uhaul place was not sure that the truck had enough gas to get back to Brookings.  I was only going about 55 on hwy 29 (75 mph speed limit) and Kevin was not catching up.  After a bit, I got concerned and slowed more.  I could see him, but he seemed to be slowing as well.  At this point, Kev was planning to get off of the hwy because the truck kept fishtailing, but had not found a spot to do so yet.

Next thing I know, the cab of the uhaul is rocking back and forth, off its tires, the back end swung out and was shooting sparks all over.  People were driving off the highway in an effort not to have an accident, two tires came rolling up the hwy past myself.  In retrospect, I have no idea how Kev had the stoic mindset to get that truck stable and off the road - I would have crashed into something or rolled without a doubt.  It was as if there were no lugnuts at ALL on the truck.

There we sat, on the side of the road, and in complete utter shock at what had just happened. We called the shop we rented from, and they told us we had to call uhaul.  We called uhaul, and struggled with comprehension a bit.  They couldnt seem to grasp the idea that TWO TIRES FELL OFF the truck.  They kept saying, they went flat? Anyhow, they sent out a towtruck, got us in a new truck and sent us on our way.  It took hours longer than expected.  That afternoon was supposed to be designated for packing the truck, but this cut severly into this.

Kev and his buddy packed as much as they could in the truck while Iz and I napped...rough life, right?  Then we ran to the store, and picked up dinner.  The in laws came in that night, and we worked and worked and worked, but got everything we needed packed.  It was a looooong day!

    8.09.2011

    August 9th, 2011

We had a long day today - our home was shown for the first time, and although we've not heard anything back from the agents, it was good to get things going.

Isabel had a playdate with a little guy named Tyler, and she LOVED him.  He was a bit smaller than her, and so she assumed she was in charge.  Our little miss took him in her room to play, and shut the door.  Daddy was shocked that his little lady would take a boy to her room already!

I'm not sure if I will be attempting the C25K W1D2 tonight because my body HUUUUUURRRTS, but I'm trying to get some motivation.  I'll let you know what happens!

    August 8th, 2011

Hello.  Today sucked.  My body hurts.  Turned into a spontaneous rest day.  Ouch.  I hope tomorrow is better.

    August 7th, 2011

Today was a long day!  I worked - as per usual, and am on day 7 of a 10 day stretch.  Kev and Isabel went to chuch without me - because I had to work. :(

I came home from work, and Isabel and I slept.  And it was oh so good.  I had spent quite some time thinking this morning, and I have decided that I am SICK of being heavy, and have decided to utlitize this transitional period in our lives right now to get healthy.

I started today with some stretching, and day one of C25K.  This is a program that eases you into running/jogging, and I am excited to do it.  As you might know, I have some big problems with my skin and my feet, so running has never been my thing.  After researching this program, I think that it might be a subtle enough increase in movement and whatnot that my feet will adjust.  I dont know, but we will see.

Kev is very supportive of my endeavor, and Isabel is just confused.  She spent a good deal of time lookng for 'jon' today after I got back from my jog....

Anyhow, Day 1 was a success.  Here's hoping tomorrow goes just as well!

    Over and out,
    Danielle
